Altar of Repose

After the Maundy Thursday service of Holy Week, the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles is transformed into a meditative garden, bringing to mind Jesus' night in the garden before his arrest, where the reserved sacrament remains until the first Good Friday service.

CSF Friends, with donor assistance, create the garden; many of the plants used are transplanted into the St. James gardens following Easter.

Parishioners and guests are invited to spend whatever time they wish throughout the night, sitting in the garden to wait and pray with Christ. Voluntary sign-up sheets assure someone is with the sacrament through the night.

Meditation sheets are provided, or bring your own physical or spiritual list. Security officers are at the door.
