Chapel of the Holy Presence

CHP Benefactors.jpgCHP FontWeb.jpgOn Wednesday, December 5, 2012, the Rt. Rev. Morris K. Thompson, Jr., led St. James clergy and thirty parishioners into the Chapel of the Holy Presence for the consecration of the Chapel, part of the Center for Spiritual Formation suite on the third floor of the Ministries Center.

Present for the consecration, along with CSF Board members, were those who contributed time, talent and treasure toward the creation of the Chapel: Dixon Smith of Dixon Smith Interiors provided the colors, design, and flooring; Deanne and Bob Israel provided restoration and refinishing of the baptismal font, recovered in St. Bernard Parish after Hurricane Katrina; and, Bob Bowsher designed and crafted the altar, lecturn/pulpit and credence table.

Through these generous gifts, a standard, unadorned office on the third floor of the Ministries Center was transformed into sacred space. You are encouraged to visit the Chapel when you're in the Ministries Center and enjoy time in silence, in prayer, in quiet reflection or perhaps in contemplation of the reserved sacrament in the monstrance that stands behind the altar.

Look for a schedule of weekday Morning Prayer to be established in the near future.

You may also want to visit the lounge on the third floor. In addition to being a quiet place to enjoy a view of St. James Episcopal Church and the downtown area, the lounge houses the CSF library. These books may be borrowed. Please leave a note in Jo Craddock' s office, right next door, so we know the title of the book borrowed, the date, your name and contact information.

CSF Atrium

Following the consecration of the Chapel of the Holy Presence, a reception hosted by CSF board members was held in the Atrium. The Atrium is home to the CSF Sunday morning programs, several special events, and regular home to the twice-monthly Meditative Yoga led by Margaret Culbertson.

Thank you …

In addition to the work of the CSF board in planning, organizing and executing the events of the evening of the Consecration, special thanks go to Jane Christiansen for invaluable and generous assistance in accumulating the necessary items for the altar and sacristy in the Chapel.
