We love babies! When a St. James family welcomes a new life to the world, we want to help you celebrate and share the news. Please contact us so we can spread the word in our newsletters.
The Guild of the Christ Child would like to visit with the new family, perhaps bring dinner if that would be of help, and bring a gift and information about baptism.
And, we'll bring by a yard sign to announce to your friends and neighbors the arrival of your baby, and St. James' newest parishioner!
This fall marks the 19th year that St. James has offered the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd religious formation program for children. The curriculum celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in 2004; Dr. Sofia Cavalletti was the founder, using Montessori methods for children to work with and absorb scripture and liturgy. The curriculum now extends around the world, in a broad spectrum of churches.
Grounded in scripture and liturgy, and enriched with prayer, worship and a spirit of celebration, children in these dedicated classrooms called “atriums” use tangible, self-teaching materials to delve deeply into the Christian message. Using these child-sized materials — similar to those on the altar and in the church, and others that depict important Bible characters and stories — helps the youngster to explore and express the relationship we believe they already have with God. The adult guide or “catechist” only assists in the strengthening and deepening of this relationship, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
If you have not yet registered your child for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (3-6 year-olds) or True Vine (6-9 year olds) atrium, please let us know about your child by contacting Emily (True Vine) or Bob (Good Shepherd), below.
If you’d like, please come by and visit, and observe the materials and/or the children and adults. The atriums are on the second floor of the Parish Hall. Sessions are held at 10:00 a.m. beginning Sunday, September 8. If children are present in the atria, we do ask for calm, quiet voices so that their work and meditation is not interrupted.
If you have any questions or need more information, please contact any of the catechists listed below.
